Editorial Standards

Our editorial principles

Visit St Andrews exists to help people discover and experience the very best of St Andrews.

Our coverage is guided by what we believe will be genuinely useful, interesting or inspiring to visitors. We aim to combine local knowledge with careful research, original storytelling and independent editorial judgment.

We don't aim to list everything.

We curate what we believe is worth your time.

How we choose what to feature

Hotels, restaurants, golf courses, experiences, shops, attractions and other businesses may be selected for coverage because we believe they are relevant to people planning a visit to St Andrews.

Selection may be informed by first-hand experience, local knowledge, independent research, reader interest and the significance of a place or experience to St Andrews.

A business does not need to advertise with Visit St Andrews to be considered for editorial coverage.

Equally, advertising with Visit St Andrews does not guarantee editorial coverage or a positive recommendation.

Our recommendations

Our editorial opinions are our own.

Where we recommend a hotel, restaurant, experience or other business, our aim is to explain why someone might choose it and who we believe it is best suited to.

Travel is personal. The right hotel for a golf trip may not be the right hotel for a romantic weekend. The restaurant we'd choose for a lively evening with friends may be very different from the one we'd recommend for a special occasion.

Our role isn't simply to declare somewhere "the best."

It's to help you make a better decision.

Accuracy

We make reasonable efforts to ensure information is accurate when it is published.

However, opening hours, prices, menus, availability, ownership, experiences and other details can change.

Where practical, we use information supplied directly by businesses and organizations or published through their official channels.

If we discover a material error, we aim to correct it promptly.

Commercial partnerships

Visit St Andrews is an independent publication, but we also work commercially with businesses and brands.

Commercial partnerships may include advertising, sponsorship, branded content, destination campaigns, affiliate relationships, booking commissions and other collaborations.

Commercial relationships do not buy favorable editorial opinions.

Where content has been paid for or produced as part of a commercial partnership, we will identify it appropriately.

Affiliate links and bookings

Some links on Visit St Andrews may allow us to earn a commission when a reader makes a booking or purchase.

Where applicable, this does not normally increase the price paid by the visitor.

Affiliate relationships help support Visit St Andrews, but they do not determine which businesses we choose to cover or recommend editorially.

Complimentary experiences

From time to time, Visit St Andrews may accept complimentary accommodation, meals, experiences, travel or access for editorial purposes.

Accepting complimentary access does not guarantee coverage or a positive review.

Where appropriate, material complimentary arrangements will be disclosed.

Artificial intelligence

Technology, including artificial intelligence, may be used to support research, editing, organization and the production of Visit St Andrews.

Our aim is that published editorial remains subject to human direction and review.

We do not knowingly publish fabricated experiences, quotations or facts as genuine reporting.
